Caius Claudius Pulcher would become consul in 92 BCE. On this coin he commemorates the victories of his ancestor C. Claudius Pulcher over the Istrians and Ligurians in 177 BCE. For these victories, he was voted a double triumph. The obverse depicts the usual head of Roma, while the reverse type of Victory continues the tradition of commemorating the triumphs of ancestors on the coins minted by members of their families.
