Title:
AAV Gene Therapy and Development from discovery to IND-enabling studies

Abstract:
Adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy is at the forefront of modern medicine, offering the potential to treat genetic diseases at their source. This talk will guide attendees through the critical early phases of AAV gene therapy development, with a focus on what it takes to advance a candidate therapy from the lab bench to a first-in-human clinical trial. I will break down the science behind AAV gene therapy, then move through the investigational new drug (IND) submission process. Drawing from seven years of experience at AskBio, a pioneering gene therapy company that has grown from a startup of 31 employees to a 1,000+ person subsidiary of Bayer, I'll share firsthand insights into the collaborative, cross-functional environment of therapeutic development. Finally, the talk will highlight career paths and academic foundations that can lead to impactful roles in gene therapy and biotechnology.
