Campus Conversations Series: Engaging our Minds, Discussing our Differences

(Other)

This series brings together leading Constitutional and Legal Scholars, along with Civil Discourse experts, to explore critical issues at the intersection of law, governance, and society. It aligns with Lawrence University's mission by fostering engaged learning, cultivating sound judgment, and promoting respect for diverse perspectives in a transformative liberal arts environment.

This conversation "Clickbait, Controversy, and Conversation: Media's Role in Civil Discourse" explores the intersection of media and modern discourse with Dr. Amy K. Sanders. In an era driven by clicks and controversy, how do media narratives influence our public conversations? This interactive session will dive into the forces shaping today's social interactions and offer insights on how to engage more thoughtfully in the digital age.

Dr. Amy K Sanders is an expert in First Amendment law, free speech, international law, and mass communication. She studies the legal regulation and ethical use of emerging technologies, with an emphasis on freedom of expression and democratic values. Professor Sanders has done extensive research on media law and ethics issues globally, publishing more than 30 scholarly articles in law reviews and peer-reviewed journals. She serves as the first female editor of the journal Communication Law and Policy.
