Sometimes the Magic Works: The Indigenous Industrial Complex

A fast moving tour through Hollywood’s long history of distorting Indigenous identity and the artists who pushed back. From a faux Native environmental icon to the Indigenous performers and activists who reshaped the narrative, this talk reveals how representation has been manipulated, resisted, and reclaimed. Centered on Menominee history, cinematic turning points, and the power of Indigenous storytelling, it’s an urgent, sharp, and unexpectedly funny look at what happens when communities take control of their own image.
