Faculty-Guest Recital: Ritual Action Reed Trio

Ritual Action Reed Trio performs works by Greg Simon, Andrew M. Rodriguez, Cassie Wieland, and Dai Fujikura.

Ritual Action is a reed trio uniting oboist Andrew Nogal, clarinetist Andy Hudson, and bassoonist Ben Roidl-Ward, three contemporary music advocates based in the American Midwest. As a group, they champion modern classics of the reed trio repertoire and commission daring new music for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. All three are alumni of the Lucerne Festival Academy, the summer training program founded by Pierre Boulez. Ritual Action has performed and recorded in residencies at SUNY Fredonia, Knox College, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Lewis & Clark College. They have also appeared as soloists with Appalachia: A Southeastern Wind Symphony, performing Tomasi’s “Divertimento Corsica,” and recently completed a large-scale collaboration with composer Michael Hersch, soprano Ah-Young Hong, and the Varo String Quartet for two world premieres at the International Museum of Surgical Science. In the 2025-26 season, they visit Illinois State University, Springfield’s “First Friday” series at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and Lawrence University, and premiere new works by Tyler Kline and Andrew M. Rodriguez.
