Constructing 3D Images from Multiple X-ray Projections using Lie Group Transformations
Image registration is crucial in radiation oncology, yet traditional methods struggle with accuracy in complex cases like X-ray projections, where overlapping structures can distort alignment metrics. Efforts were made to investigate the Lie Group Sparse Coding Metric (LSCX) for improved stability in spine tracking. For my physics capstone, I examine how LSCX was developed and tested using generated data, with the goal of enhancing precision and reducing the risk of misalignment in high-dose radiation treatments.

Creating a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer with visible, beating interference fringes
A modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer was constructed to observe and analyze the interference of light. The interferometer used acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) in place of beam splitters, causing the arms of the interferometer to differ in frequency. The interferometer gave rise to a visible, beating interference pattern which beat at the difference between the frequencies of the AOMs. The interferometer presents an opportunity for use in single-photon experiments, building on the classic Mach-Zehnder experiment to produce time-dependent detection probabilities.
