 McDougal Lecture in Mathematics; Dr. Jessica McDonald 
 presents Beyond the Four Colour Theorem: Exploring 
 Tutte's Flow Conjectures in Graph Theory.\n

 W. T. Tutte made three conjectures about so-called 
 flows in graphs between the 1950s and 1970s. These 
 conjectures aim to generalize important theorems 
 about colouring planar graphs, one of which is 
 the famous Four Colour Theorem. In this lecture, 
 we'll start with some graph basics, and talk about 
 both colourings and flows in graphs. We'll discuss 
 Tutte's Flow Conjectures and some mathematical 
 history.  We'll also discuss modern avenues of 
 approach when working with flows in graphs, and 
 I will highlight some of my joint work with others 
 on flows, in particular Brewer-Castano, DeVos, 
 Nurse, Pivotto, Rollova and Samal.\n\n
