 In the early thirteenth century, medieval Hebrew 
 books began featuring extraordinary figures: humans 
 with animal heads. Dr. Elina Gertsman will address 
 this phenomenon, using it as an entry point into 
 the rich imaginative ecology of the medieval Ashkenazic 
 universe. Dr. Elina Gertsman is a Distinguished 
 University Professor at Case Western Reserve University. 
 Her visit is made possible by the William A. Chaney 
 Lectureship Fund, and is free and open to the
