DESCRIPTION:
 Duo Battuto (cellist Hanna Rumora and percussionist 
 Nick Miller) and faculty pianist Craig Jordan 
 aEUR(TM)19 performs works by Caroline Shaw, Shelley 
 Washington, Evan Williams aEUR(TM)10, Osvaldo 
 Golijov, and Robert Honstein. \n

 Percussionist Nick Miller and cellist Hanna Rumora 
 formed Duo Battuto during their doctoral studies 
 at the University of Iowa. Their first collaboration 
 resulted in the performance and recording of aEURoe21aEUR? 
 by Andy Akiho; soon thereafter, the duo accepted 
 an invitation to perform Caroline ShawaEUR(TM)s 
 aEURoeBoris KerneraEUR? in a recital for the composer. 
 Currently, Dr. Miller is the Director of Marching 
 Percussion, Associate Director of Hawkeye Marching 
 Band, and Assistant Director of Bands at the University 
 of Iowa. Dr. Rumora is the Cello Instructor at 
 Coe College and performs with other ensembles 
 including the Burch String Trio and Room 1078.

 Our 2025-26 program explores themes of innocence, 
 change, and loss. Robert HonsteinaEUR(TM)s aEURoeDown 
 Down Baby,aEUR? inspired by the childrenaEUR(TM)s 
 clapping game, recalls youthaEUR(TM)s playfulness, 
 contrasting Osvaldo GolijovaEUR(TM)s aEURoeMarielaEUR? 
 which depicts the shock of loss. We examine the 
 time in between with aEURoeSilkaEUR? by Shelley 
 Washington, which is prefaced by the questions, 
 aEURoeWhat happens when you shroud your feelings 
 and your heart for too long? What happens when 
 you let someone in?aEUR? For WashingtonaEUR(TM)s 
 piece, we are excited to collaborate with pianist 
 Craig Jordan.\n\n
