Lawrence University has entered into a lease agreement with Cellcom, Lawrence's cellular telephone service provider, under which Cellcom will install a cellular antenna array on the roof of Youngchild Hall along with associated switchgear in the mechanicals penthouse there.
The primary benefit for Lawrence from the agreement is improved cell phone coverage on the campus for users of the Cellcom network. Of particular importance, the new site will minimize areas of weak signal that have sometimes hampered communication with security personnel and other university staff. The primary benefit for the company is a stronger signal and increased call capacity in areas of Appleton where Cellcom hopes to attract customers.
We've worked with representatives of Cellcom to minimize aesthetic issues related to the site, and we've consulted with faculty to be sure that having the equipment on and in Youngchild Hall will neither create health hazards nor interfere with teaching or research.
Work on the project will begin in late March and will probably last about 3 weeks. During that time, contractors will be using the Science Hall loading dock and elevator, and contractors' vehicles may be parked in the vicinity of the building.

I have never heard of "Cellcom". Will this benefit students on other networks, like Cingular?
